Doctoral student researcher: Leslie Riggle Miller is a current doctoral student at the University of Oklahoma (OU) in Norman, Oklahoma in the Department of Sociology. Leslie completed her Master’s degree in sociology at OU, and examined doctor-patient communication in order to understand what specific patient and physician characteristics influenced the medical encounter. Leslie is specializing in medical sociology and environmental sociology.
Principal Investigator at the University of Oklahoma: Dr. B. Mitchell Peck. Mitch’s research focuses on inequality with a particular focus on how interactions between individuals and institutions create and maintain inequalities. Most of his work focuses on the doctor-patient encounter and the processes in that relationship that create and maintain health inequalities. In addition, he has examined the role of race in the juvenile justice system. He teaches several undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics and research methods, medical sociology, and stratification.
